Arctic is a cold storage facility that offers secure temperature controlled and ambient warehousing & logistics. They operate double shifts, out of an 80,000ft2 facility, spread over multiple fabrication halls.

Arctic Cold Storage approached PereGreen Energy in 2016, looking for an intelligent lighting system for their cold storage facility that was more efficient than the current metal halide and SON fixtures in place.

Project requirements

The following criteria needed to be achieved:

  • Increased light levels in the cold rooms, dry goods areas & loading docks
  • Reduced energy consumption and costs
  • Eliminate maintenance and associated costs

    Following a site visit and evaluation, the PereGreen team identified that Arctics’ facility would benefit from censoring, due to its large size and relatively low occupancy. They also determined that due to an abundance of natural light in the hall, Arctic would save considerably with integrated daylight sensors.

  • Replaced the existing 250w metal halide & SON low bays with LED fixtures in all the cold rooms and docking areas
  • LED linears, with integrated daylight sensors, were used to replace the low bays in the dry goods area
  • Installed exterior lighting to the loading docks and truck parking areas.
  • Results
  • Energy consumption reduced by 91% in the dry goods area and 75% in the cold rooms, a saving of just over €10,500 per year.
  • Light levels on the floor increased by over 60% on average
  • Annual maintenance costs were completely eliminated

    Bio Atlantis
    BioAtlantis Ltd. is a biotechnology company working to provide solutions to problems caused by stresses in plants, animals and humans. They have a 30,000m2 facility in Co. Kerry.

    Project Detail

    BioAtlantis are in the process of upgrading their Kerry facility to incorporate a new processing plant. This plant is covers multiple levels with lighting requirements from 5m to 20m in height. While processing is heavily automated, it is an extreme work environment that requires excellent light levels throughout.

    Essential elements of the lighting upgrade included:

  • Maximum light levels for the processing areas
  • All fixtures to be IP65 rated for processing environment
